Mamagoto, India’s leading Pan-Asian café opens its yellow doors for the 9th time, at Chennai. Founded in January 2010 in Delhi, Mamagoto literally translated from Japanese means “to play with food”, and that is the very ethos of the concept – to make Asian eating fun, unpretentious and casual.
Launched in the hub of the city’s commercial and residential hub, on Kadar Nawas Khan road, off Nungumbakkam high road, Mamagoto brings its award winning Asian street hawker cuisine. With its famed signature bowls, robata grill, asian salads, dim sum, wok dishes and curries – experimental flavours from China, Thailand, Japan and South East Asian combine with the super quirky manga inspired graphic design to create a space filled with energy and yumminess.
The space is beaming with light and colour, natural forms of wood, metal and threads intertwined with graphic art. Mamagoto’s brand new teppanyaki grill also makes it’s debut in Chennai. Open all day and with a bespoke juice bar with flavoured coconut water and detox juices, the décor is also given further tweaks to welcome the foodies of the city. Also on display will be mamagoto’s merchandise “mamashop” a eclectic mix of cushion covers, mugs, t – shirts to add to the quirky design buff in you. Young, urban and always casual, its time for no-frills dining, its time to unwind with friends, its time to lose your table manners, its time for mamagoto chennai.

My Experience :
The outlet was buzzing with crowd even on a weekday evening so reservation is a must. The bright yellow themed ambiance can cheer you up instantly. Even the loo was designed in a way to meet the theme of the restaurant 🙂
When it comes to maintaining authenticity of any cuisine, some tweaks are done to satisfy the taste buds of Indians. But in Mamagoto you get to taste an authentic Pan Asia cuisine.
A few things I have tasted are crispy lotus stem with burnt garlic and dried red chilli (must try), hot basil chicken cups (must try), rock shrimp tempura, prawn in lime and chilli sauce, teriyaki meal in a bowl, homemade coconut and palm sugar icecream, mama’s homemade chocolate cake.
From salad to desserts, I relished almost all the items served. A few dishes were on the sweeter side and a few with heavy coconut flavor. It is better to ask and clarify how a dish tastes if you are in doubt
A perfect place to enjoy food with a group of friends 🙂
